Building your own template

Build a reusable, on-brand template from scratch in Mozaik's template builder — the structure your team runs a whole video series or production pipeline on.

A custom template is the reusable, on-brand structure your team runs a video series or production pipeline on. You build the sequence of scenes once, and every video that follows inherits the same layouts and brand look — so your team produces at volume without rebuilding from scratch each time.

This article covers building a template from scratch. If you would rather start from a ready-made Mozaik template, see building from the Library instead.

Where to start

Open Templates → Custom in the left navigation. The Custom area holds the templates you and your teammates have built (as opposed to the Library, which holds Mozaik's prebuilt templates).

Click Create template to open the Real-Time Editor with a new, untitled template. The Real-Time Editor gives you a live preview as you build.

Good to know: New accounts build templates in the Real-Time Editor, which is what this guide uses. Some older accounts may still see a legacy Standard Editor option — if that’s you, the same ideas apply, but the screens differ.

Build it up scene by scene

A template is a sequence of scenes. Click Add scene to add the first one, then keep adding scenes until the structure matches your video. You can insert a new scene anywhere using the Add scene buttons above and below the scenes you already have, and reorder as your series needs.

Choose a scene layout for each scene

When you add a scene, the scene layout picker opens with two tabs:

  • Standard — Mozaik's built-in layouts: Video without Graphics, Video with Lowerthird, Text Slide, Logo Slide, Split Screen, Interview, and Thumbnail.

  • Custom — scene layouts Mozaik's design team has built specifically for your brand.

Pick the layout that fits what each scene needs to do. For a deeper look at what each layout is for, see the scene layouts article.

Good to know: Your brand kit is applied automatically, so scenes pick up your colors, fonts, and brand kit elements (transitions, intro/outro, lower thirds) without extra setup.

Fine-tune each scene

Hover a scene and open its menu for per-scene options:

  • Scene settings

  • Change scene — swap the layout

  • Activate transition / Deactivate transition — toggle the transition into the scene

  • Duplicate scene

  • Remove scene

Name and save for your team

Click the template title at the top to rename it inline. Use the top bar to set Logo, Color, Music, and Aspect ratio for the template, then click Save template.

The template lands in Custom, where your whole team can find it, reuse it for every video in the series, and edit it as your pipeline evolves.
